Please submit your entry before the 24th June 2015. Good Luck!

Rules Of Entry

  • The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers. Amateur and professional entries will not be judged separately. McCartneys employees are not eligible to enter.

  • The theme for the McCartneys competition is 'Capture the Spirit of McCartneys'. This is open to interpretation and individual creativity but all entries must show an understanding of the theme.

  • There will be an overall ‘McCartneys Photographer of the Year’ and ‘McCartneys Young Photographer of the Year’ chosen from all entries.

  • All photos entered must be submitted under an individual’s name.

  • Any photograph that has won a prize in any other photographic competition must not be submitted and will not be eligible for the competition.

  • McCartneys require that prior permission be sought before submitting photographs of private or public places. However permission is not required for images taken at McCartneys premises.

  • It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary permissions are obtained from any person featured in a photograph.

  • By submitting images you confirm that you are the copyright holder and creator of the image and that you will be responsible for any claims made by any third party.

  • Copyright will remain with the photographer. However by entering this competition the photographer/entrant agrees to McCartneys using the images for possible exhibition, publication or promotional use.

  • The judges’ decision is final.

  • Closing date for receipt of entries is 24th June 2015.

  • Prize-winners will be notified in August 2015.

  • The judges reserve the right not to make any award if, in their opinion, none of the entries meet the required standard.

  • All entries must be of high resolution and in standard image formats (i.e. .jpeg, .png, .tiff). Please do not send compressed or resized images as entries.

Judges Hints & Tips

  • Entries will be judged on technical quality (exposure, resolution, sharpness etc), and will also display an intelligent, though not necessarily traditional composition. They will also be judged on their relevance to the theme of the competition, so this must always be borne in mind when submitting an entry.

  • The winning entry will satisfy all of the above criteria and also possess a unique 'wow' factor that sets it apart from other entries which are technically as good. In other words, the judges are looking for something that is not just excellent, but stands out as 'different'.

  • Exposure is entirely a question of the right lighting - the right direction, time of day, time of year, weather conditions, etc. All of these critically affect the end result, so experiment with different conditions on your chosen subject.

  • Sharpness is often controlled by the camera's autofocus, but to avoid a shaken image, ideally use a tripod or a wall as a support.

  • Use the highest resolution setting on your camera (most important).

  • Relevance is somewhat subjective, but the judges will be the arbiters of that, and ultimately of the 'wow' value of the image.

  • The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
