McCartneys were privileged to offer the largest yard full of cattle at Brecon for several years. It was felt following foot & mouth that a 1000 cattle would never be seen at Brecon store sales, however on Friday a tremendous show of 1048 cattle were sold through the ring and a trade which exceeded everyone’s expectations.
The auctioneer commented that although the day started well in terms of prices it actually improved and by 6pm cattle were getting dearer as many buyers attempted to fill loads.
This incredible entry attracted buyers from all over the U. K. and the ring was packed from start to finish.
The stock were all from traditional farmers mainly from the Breconshire area, although some producers did travel from as far as Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth.
Such a large sale will always generate tremendous interest from buyers and it is hoped that this sale will re-establish Brecon as a centre for finishing men from everywhere to come every month to find a yard full of quality cattle and compete around a packed ring
