Record Entry for Ludlow Market Store Sale

McCartneys recently held their second October store sale at Ludlow Market.

A record entry of over 1,100 cattle and 3,200 sheep were entered, with show classes for both feeding lambs and beef stores.

Ms. T. J. Richards & Son, Garn Farm, Newcastle swept the board again in the lamb classes for the second time in the month. Their texel x lambs, made £44 each, and at the fall of the hammer were purchased by a Stourbridge buyer.

In the cattle classes, Harold Bebb, from West Felton won the Blakeway/Fowden Steers Trophy for the sixth time, in the ten years that it has been awarded at Ludlow market. The continental x steers weighed in at 580kgs, making £736 a piece.

Ms. JR & T Franks, Bachfield, Kimbolton, took first prize and The Wyken Trophy in the heifer classes, as they did last year. Their home bred continental x heifers weighed 442kgs, making £525 a piece and were purchased by a West Midlands buyer.
