McCartneys held the last in their series of public meetings at Bishops Castle Community Hall last Thursday which was well attended with over 100 people enjoying complimentary tee, coffee & biscuits before settling down to the main business of the evening that being the Single Payment Scheme.
Miss Jenny Layton gave an initial presentation of the rules & regulations for Wales, which was then followed, by an informative presentation by Mr Gareth Wall in respect of England and the cross compliance, issues.
The floor was then opened to questions under the Chairmanship of Mr Wyn Jones where it became obvious that there was considerable concern over the new rules and regulations. However, the panel under the guidance of Mr. Les Thomas - Chairman of McCartneys Rural Professional Department was able to shed light on numerous issues - much to the satisfaction of the audience.
The overall general feeling said chairman Mr. Wyn Jones was that it was a beneficial meeting where a considerable number of issues were resolved but there are, as is always the case grey areas that need clarification from DEFRA before definitive advice can be given to farmers & landowners.
If you have any queries regarding the Single Payment Scheme or any other government agricultural scheme please contact your local McCartneys Rural Professional Office or Chairman Mr. Les Thomas on 07970 808470.
