Premier Sale of Working Sheepdogs.

29th September 2005

McCartneys premier sale of working sheepdogs given the thumbs up!

The auctioneer, Matthew Nicholls would personally like to thank all those who attended and supported this first sale of working sheep dogs. I think everyone who attended the sale would agree that it went off without a hitch and turned out to be a very successful first sale.
The auctioneer was very pleased and delighted with the support that the sale received, there was a full crowd in attendance which was very encouraging and gratifying considering the effort that was put into the sale. Many commented that the sale was held at an ideal venue especially with regard to the demonstration field. Potential buyers could easily see the dogs being worked and the topography of the field gave vendors the opportunity to give a good demonstration.

There were 50 dogs presented at the sale, including late entries, topping at price of £945 for a registered bitch by the name of Meg from Mr GR Drew of Cwmgwyddel, Gwystre, Llandrindod Wells who received £50 prize money and a gift voucher kindly donated by Hay & Brecon Farmers Ltd. The purchaser received a bag of dog food again kindly donated by the sponsors. The average price for all dogs sold was £600. It was a little disappointing that we did not break the four figure barrier although this was not considered surprising, being the first sale.
To capture the phrase “from tiny acorns mighty Oaks will grow” it is hoped that this sale will indeed grow and establish itself as a sale renowned for selling good working sheepdogs. This is a new venture for us at McCartneys and we are well aware that there is still a lot to be learnt, however as these sales progress we hope to increase and develop our knowledge and hence provide all who participate the service they deserve and build a good honest relationship with all parties involved.
It is the intention of McCartneys to hold two sheepdog sales a year, one in the Spring and obviously the sale that has just taken place. We have already received a lot of interest by several parties asking when the next sale is to be held. We have therefore set a preliminary date for June 3rd 2006.

Once again McCartneys would like to thank everyone involved in the sale for their support and wish the best of luck for those who purchased a dog on Saturday and hope to see everyone again next year!
