Irish Sheep Take Honours at Worcester

A shearling ewe from David Mawhinney’s “Rockvilla” flock took top honours at the Sixth Annual Production Sale of in-lamb ewes and ewe lambs at Worcester on Sat 7th October 2006.

The Wraycastle Expresser daughter levelled at 1,250Gns being secured by A. Evans, Denbigh, North Wales.
David Mawhinney enjoyed further success with a Castellau Ultra daughter in lamb to the 2,700Gns Wraycastle Gladstone selling at 800Gns to fellow countryman Alister Browne, Ballymoney, Co. Antrim.
“Logie Durno” senior ewes were hotly contested from William Ingram’s Aberdeenshire flock.
A four year old ewe in lamb to the 5,600Gns Foulrice Gladiator levelled at 800Gns to R.J. Tindall, Wetherby, Yorkshire. Mr Tindall selected severall of the better conformation ewes and finally purchased a total of 9 sheep, his second highest purchase being 660Gns for a 2 year old “Rutland Dillon” ewe also from “Logie Durno”.
J A & R. Geldard “Wraycastle” had a successful trip south from Cumbria selling a “Southam Domingo” shearling ewe carrying a single from “Galtres Favour” purchased for 7,100Gns at the Society’s sale at Worcester in July, the ewe was purchased by local breeders E.J. Taylor, Northend, Warwick for 800Gns.
A Small yet select consignment from Drew Cowan’s “Tullyear” flock the National Champion Flock, received a strong following up to 720Gns also to M.A. Evans, Denbigh, North Wales.
Robert Gregory’s “Edstaston” entry enjoyed a keen and genuine following throughout with his shearling ewes peaking at 600Gns to R. Moseley, Oswestry, Shropshire and a superb run of ewe lambs selling to a flying demand and peaking at 800Gns for an “Arjane Cavanagh” lamb to D. Mawhinney’s “Rockvilla” flock, Northern Ireland.
