4th November 2006
The First Annual Production Sale for the “Select Seven” breeders at Worcester on Saturday 4th November proved a resounding success with a 100% clearance and a massively impressive £348.96 average topping at 790Gns.
The sale, a brainchild of Callum & Emma Hillhouse the “Woodston” flock, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire attracted buyers from across the country and Northern Ireland.
Their own entry of 10 in-lamb ewes enjoyed sound and keen support peaking at 500Gns for an in-lamb 2 year old being secured by L. Jamison, Hillsborough, Co Down, Northern Ireland. The trip across the Irish Sea was well worthwhile and Mr Jamison also battled to take the top priced ewe of the day from Nick Barron’s “Cattistock” flock, the yearling ewe had been Female Champion at Devon County and Reserve Breed Champion at Bath & West earlier this year.
J. A. Keith “Weydale” opened the sale and was soon on a roll when their show ewe a 3 year old having been Champion at Great Yorkshire reached 500Gns to Woodston Manor Partnership, Worcester.
Robert Graham’s “Strathallan” flock recorded strong support topping at 470Gns for a 3 year old ewe in lamb with twins to the Male & Reserve Breed Champion RASE 2005 being secured by local breeders C. R. Williams, Broad Oak, Hereford.
Malcolm and Kathy Yeo’s “Swincombe” flock from Barnstaple, Devon broke the 400 Guinea barrier when a yearling ewe made 410Gns to L. D. Williams, Kington, Hereford.
Auctioneer Clive Roads commented that everyone connected with the sale was “highly delighted” with the outcome and were particularly keen to praise the efforts of Emma Hillhouse who had instigated the sale and was a major contributor to its success.
