Unusual Signed Postcards Discovered

25th January 2007

McCartneys recent fine art and antique sale at their Ludlow showroom, included a collection of signed antique postcards bearing the signatures of Houdini, Groucho Marx, Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy and Buster Keaton.

Daniel Fielder of McCartneys Fine Art Department said “The postcards came from a local house clearance and were identified by a member of our staff who found them among a large box of assorted postcards”.
Daniel added, “Often people do not recognise the value and importance of items and that is where our experienced and knowledgeable staff can assist in identifying important collectables”.
The postcards were sold in six lots and fetched £580.
At the same sale three paintings by the British artist Peter le Cave made £620.
The paintings had been found locally in an old barn and were immediately recognised by a McCartneys fine art expert.
Daniel urges people to take advantage of the McCartneys free valuation service, which can assist people in identifying rare and unusual items, which otherwise may be discarded.
