The Salers Cattle Society's Inaugural Show and Sale at Bristol Sales Centre made a keen and successful start with a combination of pedigree cattle and commercial heifers finding encouraging support from buyers travelling from across the country.
A bull, "Rigel Pistol" from Rigel Pedigree found the top price of the day coming home at a creditable 3,500gns to FAI Farms Ltd. The two year old polled son of "Rigel Othello" won 3rd in the show and found his new home in Wytham, Oxford.
The Male Champion and Reserve overall Champion from D.I. & H.M. Rogers' Coland herd sold for 1,800gns to J Tomlinson, Colne, Lancashire.
Females were in good demand selling to 1,440gns for the Reserve Female Champion "Rigel Perdita" a daughter of the noted French bull 'Sagitaire' going to J. Rosewell, Salcombe Regis, Sidmouth, Devon. Rigel Predigree having been very successful in the show ring picked up 1,200gns fro their Female Champion "Rigel Lucinda" also a daughter of 'Sagitaire' and also travelling to Sidmouth to join J. Rosewell's herd.
Commercial Salers really enjoyed a fantastic demand with both served and unserved heifers 'ringing the bell' and peaking at £850 for autumn calving heifers from D.I. & H.M. Rogers.
