5th June 2007
The heritage of Gay Meadow will go under the hammer on the 17th of June, when Shrewsbury Town Football Club together with McCartneys auction items from the old ground.
Fans will have the opportunity to acquire mementos from Gay Meadow which has been home to the club for nearly 100 years.
Gareth Wall, Partner at McCartneys said “It’s the end of an era for the ground and McCartneys are proud to be associated with this unique event. The ground has seen many triumphs and defeats and fans will be able to buy a part of its history from the auction. There is a wide range of items which will suit all pockets”.
Items for sale range from corner flags, signed footballs through to directors seats and turnstiles. More unusual items include a free standing bath and a TV backdrop for the Carling Cup with the Shrewsbury Town Crest.
Roland Wycherley, Chairman said “We are expecting a large attendance at the auction, as many fans will wish to acquire something from the ground to set alongside their memories”.
The auction takes place on Sunday 17th June at 12.00 noon. Viewing is from 9.30am.
Auctioneers and assistants will be available on the day to answer questions regarding the process of the auction. Bidders can register in advance and commission bids can be accepted by Friday 8th of June. The auction catalogue is available through the club and at any McCartneys office.
