A very pleasing entry of working sheepdogs to total 32 in all and taking into account the large number of sales that have taken place in recent weeks, this was considered as very encouraging. Most would agree that the sale went without a hitch, the sheep & dogs performed well, it was a beautiful day and from the comments received everyone seemed to enjoy the sale.
The overall average for the day to include all entries was a noteworthy £700 per dog and with a clearance of well in excess of 50%, the auctioneer was pleased and declared the sale a great success and further commented that there seemed to be better quality dogs forward, a greater buoyancy amongst the crowd and that the bidders were much more forthcoming than in previous sales. We had over 50 registered buyers in attendance and many that had travelled considerable distances to make a purchase (Over 500 miles in some cases!).
This was our fourth sale of working sheep dogs and whilst we note that we are still relatively newcomers to the sheepdog fraternity, the sales are improving sale upon sale and we remain ever more optimistic as establishing the Hay-on-Wye venue as a premises noted for selling good working sheepdogs.
The top priced achieved on the day was for a registered two year old dog by the name of Zac who was presented for sale by Mr. G. Evans of Caelloy Farm, Cowbridge that was sold for £1575 to Mrs Abrey of Tan-y-Allt, a local lady from Felin Fach. We also had a further entry from Mr. D Streeter of Ty Dewi that broke the four figure barrier to make £1155 for Cammon Gwyn a Black and White registered dog 14 months old.
As always the auctioneer Matthew Nicholls, would like to personally thank all those who attended and supported the sale and wish all those who made a purchase the best of luck.
Things are looking promising for our autumn sale with several entries already received. We hope that we can rely on your support once again on Saturday 22nd September 2007 and entries are now invited for this catalogued sale.
