Highlanders Hit the Heights

A major reduction sale of the noted and successful Craycombe Fold for Mrs Judith Dawes sold to a packed ring of buyers and supporters with the highlight of the sale 1260gns for "Phyllis 2nd of Craycombe", an eight year old cow by the highly respected "Philip of Strathallan" with a heifer calf at foot being secured by Mrs S Tedbury, Hardham, Pulborough, Sussex.

A seven year old cow, "Annemarie 3rd of Wainsmore" with heifer calf at foot levelled at 1080gns to P. Stephens, All Stretton, Shropshire. One of the few black Highland cattle on offer "Black Bess of Craycombe" with her heifer calf sold briskly to reach 980gns to M. Trees, Temple Grafton, Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire.

Unserved heifers were highly contested selling to 490gns for an 'Earl of Craycombe' daughter to Mrs Tedbury, Pulborough, Sussex with another similar aged heifer by "Callum of Greystones" peaking at 470gns. to Mrs Gardener, Eckington, Pershore, Worcestershire.

Top price in the bull section went to the Junior Male Champion at Royal Show, 2005 "Prince of Craycombe" taken by local breeders Booth & Bell, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Judith Dawes, owner, breed judge and former Highland Cattle Society President was pleased with the overall outcome of the sale although the decision to sell the Fold after 25 years dedicated commitment had been very difficult.

Auctioneer, Clive Roads of McCartneys commented that both he and Mrs Dawes were highly delighted with the packed sale ring and the support of breeders from literally across the country.
