My positive reaction to the recent announcement in the Queen’s Speech that legislation for tighter regulation of Estate Agents is planned by the government has surprised many of my acquaintances who are not directly involved in the property sector. The news of the changes has not come as a bolt out of the blue for those in the business of selling houses and throughout the year I have been reading newspaper reports heralding The Consumers, Estate Agents and Redress Bill which will incorporate this legislation. I have to confess that I am of that age where Radio 2 as opposed to Radio 1 is my preferred choice of easy listening and to be quite honest I am not that sad that we have heard the last of Top of the Pops although I did very much enjoy it in my youth. Our esteemed Prime Minister however never misses a trick and has this time taken the opportunity to align himself with the young and environmentally aware in his recent Radio 1 interview. The publication of the Government’s Energy Review presented by Alistair Darling, the Industry Secretary, to be formulated in a white paper by the end of the year endorsed nuclear power, proposed cutting the household use of electricity and promoted renewable energy by the form of grants & subsidies to increase the amount generated from the current 4% to closer to 20%.
