What our vendors say
"It was the location of Stanway Cottage which sold it to us," say the current owners. "We fell in love with the picturesque views and feeling of tranquillity. To this day, as I come over the top of the Wenlock Edge and see the house nestling in the valley below, I feel at home. On winter nights you can see the house lights on if someone is home. Coming home from holidays abroad, we are amazed at how green everything is.""The house itself needed a lot of repair and redecoration work doing to it," the owners continue, "so since moving in we have enhanced it both inside and out. Although we haven't made any great structural alterations to the property, we have altered and modernised the kitchen, replacing a coal-fired Aga with an oil-fired Stanley and making structural changes to fit it in. We have also modified the access to one bedroom. Overall, the house is a spacious family home whilst still being cosy.""Outside, we have added a patio outside one lounge and added solar panels onto the roof," the owners continue. "For a keen gardener there is a lot of potential to grow vegetables, which we have only dabbled in, along with flowers. We acquired a meadow and wooded area to the side of the house and put in raised vegetable beds, a 30ft polytunnel, new apple trees, a plum tree and a shed. There are also mature raspberry, loganberry and blackberry plants together with some redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes."Indeed, the gardens are nothing short of idyllic. "In the summer, you have direct sunlight in the garden until well after 9pm," the owners say. "At night, because we have virtually no light pollution, the night skies are wonderful. We love the sound of the stream that runs through the garden bubbling away to send you to sleep or wake up to. We also have wooded areas for children to play in or to camp with their friends. The grounds are home to a whole host of wildlife. If you are quiet, hares will come within two feet of you, and we regularly see rabbits, deer, and the occasional fox or hedgehog, with bats and birds swooping low over us. In bed at night, it is so relaxing to listen to the owls hooting outside."This is the ideal home for everyday life and entertaining alike. "When our daughters were young, we would have large family Christmases at home with both sets of grandparents and an aunt staying for a few days, using up every bedroom," the owners say. "We have also hosted a post-wedding celebration for close family in the garden and also 50th and 60th birthday parties for over 40 people in the house and garden. We can accommodate up to 6 cars onto the drive and another two in the garage, as well as using the meadow as additional parking space for larger gatherings. With two lounges and two other rooms downstairs, there is plenty of space for family to spread out."The local area has much to recommend it, too. "We have three good small primary schools within a ten minute drive and two good secondary schools a 15 minute drive away in Much Wenlock and Church Stretton," say the owners. "There is a shop 10 minutes' drive away, and a number of village halls also within a 10 minute drive which hold various social events. From the house you can walk out the door and go in any direction across fields, always surrounded by wonderful views. We are just off the Jack Mytton Way walking route, but there are no end of other footpaths to choose from, too. We are below the Wenlock edge and my daughter who is studying Archaeology and Palaeontology has seen countless fossils by the nearby disused quarry!"
