Are you claiming small business rates relief? Are you eligible for small business relief?

Tue 12 May 2015

Do you occupy one property with a rateable value below £12,000?

Since 2010 the Government has given 100% relief (double the previous relief) where your rateable value is £6,000 or less meaning you’ll have no business rates to pay this year if you apply and even if your rateable value is over £6,000 (between £6,001 and £12,000) the discount will apply on a sliding scale.  For those who have not yet claimed any relief it can be backdated as far back as 1st April 2010 - provided you meet the qualifying criteria.

What’s more, even if you have a rateable value of between £12,000 and £18,000 you’re still considered a small business which means that although you don’t quality for small business rate relief your business rates will be calculated using the small business multiplier resulting in you paying less than the going rate.

If you think your business property is eligible contact your local council – nothing ventured nothing gained as they say!
