Becoming an authority on property

Thu 26 September 2013

I recently saw a post on twitter asking estate agents what the best piece of advice was that they had received during their career.

My head immediately started spinning with the countless snippets that I have received over that last ten years or so, some of which have been invaluable and some of which have been questionable to say the least (but at least I can have a giggle about them now)!

One of the responses reminded me of a bit of advice which I had also been given some years ago; “to succeed in the industry you need to become an authority on property, be an expert in your field, you are not just a sales person”. This I have learnt is very true and something that I continue to strive to achieve.

For me a good indicator of your expertise in any given field has to be that above and beyond your day to day business, people come to you for advice or comment and tap into your knowledge. Further, they have sufficient confidence in your expertise to broadcast your opinions or words of wisdom to the public domain.

I am therefore delighted to have been asked to become the monthly property columnist for mywelshpool.co.uk and mynewtown.co.uk. By becoming an authority on local property I now have the wonderful opportunity to share my opinions, advice and thoughts with the community in which I live and work. I hope you will enjoy what I have to say each month and that you benefit from it in some way.

As always I welcome the opportunity to talk to anyone in more detail and you can find me at McCartneys Welshpool or Newtown offices or contact me on 07855 834 282 or tom@mccartneys.co.uk.
