Brecon Fatstock Sale Report 10th April 2018

Tue 10 April 2018

A larger entry of hoggets this week, selling to a serious trade from start to finish. It really was on fire, with a major deadweight firm coming to buy out of livestock system. Pen after pen of well meated hoggets sold over 305pkg. The overall SQQ may not look much but honestly it really was a serious trade considering the meat on offer. I keep stressing that meat is key to a solid trade and this is really showing. There are still far too many hoggets on offer which are TOO LEAN, please meat SELLS. I really don’t know when this trade is going to stop - these prices have never been seen before. Topping at 327pkg was EE &AD Lewis, Lower Cwmtydu, for a pen of 42kg Texel X Ewe lambs, with the next being sold 325pkg for a pen of 41kg, with the mediums averaging 303pkg (£128.03). All weights were wanted and demand was strong throughout. The lighter hoggets were well sought after, averaging 281pkg topping 305.5pkg. Top price for pph was £169.05 with the over 52kg averaging 256.8pkg (£156.68). Once again Brecon has showed 1200 plus can be sold to an excellent trade every week. Our trade in Brecon is pounds and we mean pounds a head of neighbouring sale centres near and far. We have 8 strong buying support and we need larger entries every week.
