A very disappointing entry of hoggets this week, on a week where demand was strong with two lorries on the bays waiting for sheep back to kill. The yard consisted of mainly hill bred and lighter weight lambs which would have affected the overall average. However the mediums still averaged 225p/kg with a several pens sold over 230p/kg. Top call of 234.5p/kg was seen for a pen of 47.5kg. An excellent run of Mules and Welsh averaging 41.5kg selling to an average of 223pkg. Lighter hoggets were harder sold with a lot lacking meat. Meat is key to having top trade. We can not stress enough that we need more hoggets every week to fulfil our strong buying support.
