Brecon Store Report 24th November 2017

Fri 24 November 2017

A blistering trade for all types and prices which simply far exceeded every vendors expectations.

It is extremely encouraging for all our vendors to see such a strong demand for Brecon Store Cattle. This year has seen new purchasers join what is already an excellent ring of buyers from all parts of the UK.

We had some tremendous cattle from all parts of Wales, including North Wales, with Edwards brothers from Pencraig showing 33 steers which topped at £1430 and averaged an incredible £1328 per head, whilst a local vendor TM & EA Powell, Penyrheol, who were at the end of the sale topped at £1510 and averaged £14221 on his cattle.

The quality types were a premium trade and many more could have been sold to advantage. The steers averaged £1120 even without the show cattle and 232p/kg for a yard of strong foreword types, whilst heifers averaged £980/head and 220p/kg reflecting the types on offer. The future of suckler cows does seem positive and farmers should take note of the strong and stable demand which exists for your store cattle.
