Brecon Store Sale Report 27th April 2018 & Fatstock Report Tuesday 1st May 2018

Fri 27 April 2018

It was simply a record entry which resulted in the best trade of the year to date. At one stage the steers were averaging 250p/kg but by the end of the sale they did ease back to an incredible 247p/kg to include all types and the heifers averaged 236p/kg and £978 per head. It was well ahead of all recent sales and we had a ring which was full to capacity. The quality and quantity of cattle on offer certainly contributed to the trade and it was a pleasure to offer such a good yard full of cattle and although purchasers did comment on how dear the cattle were in comparison they still appreciated the type of cattle which were on offer. The last lot at 6pm was certainly as dear as the first lot at 10am and everyone enjoyed a premium trade.

Cattle came from all directions including an excellent run of cattle from Messrs Jerman of Caersws (38) which averaged £1110 on 12 month old steers and heifers topping at 321p/kg while it was good to see Messrs E A Davies, Pantmeinog back with 38 exceptional cattle (10-12) months which averaged £1178 topping at £1390 for an exceptional show potential animal at 390p/kg being a Limousin x steer. While Messes J A V Mills of Llanerchllwyd enjoyed a similar trade on another exceptional run of 30 steers & heifers which topped at 327p/kg for a young Lim x heifer 11 months at 415kg. It was a fantastic entry of cattle and our thanks and appreciation goes to every vendor who contributed to one of the best sales of store cattle in Wales. Top prices were as follows:
