Brecon Store Sale Report 31 08 18 & Fatstock 04 09

Tue 4 September 2018

604 Store Cattle A wonderful yard of cattle which was made up of several tremendous Charolais cattle alongside some dairy bred types and also Hereford cross cattle which are not typical to Brecon Market.

However, the buyers came for everything we had on offer and the trade and prices far exceeded recent reports. There was a staggering demand for well fleshed and well-bred cattle as buyers have been short of stores since June and this sale marked the first good entry anywhere.

Fat prices are improving but our prices on Friday would still offer a premium and the averages of 220p/kg for steers and 215p/kg for heifers to include several Hereford cross cattle from dairy herds and mainly strong stores would be an exceptional trade.

There were some wonderful runs of Charolais cattle from GW & EA Owen, Cwmderi which topped at £1425 whilst EE & AD Lewis also had Charolais steers up to £1420. Some well fleshed heifers from A G Smout Beili Griffith topped at £1300 and £1265 and there would have been around 240p/kg which compares more than favourably with the fat trade. The confidence for fattening cattle is certainly improving and we shall see a strong demand at the next sale with all buyers in attendance. The steers averaged £1051 per head and the heifers £960 which would be excellent with a top of £1470 (steers) and £1310 (heifers).
