Fine Art, Antique and General Sale Report - Thursday 14th August 2014

Thu 14 August 2014

McCartneys of Ludlow are pleased to announce another very successful Antique and Collectables sale held on 14th August 2014. The saleroom was full to bursting with lots offered predominantly being from two clearances.

There was a huge variety on offer with something for everyone amongst the 566 lots offered on the evening. Of particular interest were three hand painted Royal Worcester fruit plates which after competition from the internet, room and two phone bids finally went under the hammer at £700. Perhaps the lot which generated the most interest was a good quality Liberty beaten copper oval mirror with four Ruskin stones which sold locally for £760 beating competition from the London market. Along with silver flying out of the saleroom, with a pair of café au lait jugs by Henry Vander and Arthur Vander selling at £300, jewellery was certainly not being left behind with a collection of mixed jewellery to include jet rosary beads realising £900. Coins were on demand on the evening with sovereigns making an above market £160 and a George coin in mount £370.

Furniture was selling well on the evening with an 18th Century mahogany Hepplewhite D end table finally going under the hammer at £940 after very competitive bidding in the room and a lovely oak cricket table realised £380.

McCartneys are currently accepting entries for their next sale on 18th September, call the Portcullis Saleroom for a free presale appraisal 01584 878822.
