Fine Art, Antique and General Sale Report - Thursday 18th July 2013

Thu 18 July 2013

The antique sale at McCartneys Portcullis saleroom on 18th July was very well attended with over 400 lots on offer.  Bidding was strong both from buyers in attendance and the many registered internet bidders.  The auctioneers noted the number of new faces in the room.

As expected, the top price of the sale was for an early 19th century weather house in the form of a dolls house, with male and female figures suspended on a gut indicating the humidity.  The house was probably a special commission modelled on an actual house and the architecture suggested an American origin, perhaps the Boston area.  It generated considerable interest and sold for £3500 to a buyer from West Sussex.

Other notable results included an inlaid kettle stand at £400; a silver guilloche enamel cigarette ease at £280; a Moorcroft for Liberty bowl (hair crack) at £260 and a mahogany writing slope at £210.

There were around 20 lots of cased taxidermy from a property in Llandrindod Wells with prices to £200.

Entries are now invited for our 15th August sale of antiques on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until August 1st.  For any further information please call our Fine Art Team on 01584 878822.
