Herefordshire Council is currently undergoing a Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA), this forms part of the process of reviewing the Core Strategy, which although adopted in October 2015, requires refreshing to identify sites which may have become available since the plan has become adopted, and has the potential to re-evaluate previously submitted, but not included sites.
Herefordshire Council is looking to allocate suitable sites in order to contribute to the delivery of housing and employment land targets throughout the county, and also that allocated land is deliverable with the plan period. As part of this it is required to ensure sufficient housing and employment land is identified.
Due to the size and nature of the county, Herefordshire Council will need to consider a significant number of sites, this means that it is important for landowners looking to make the most of this opportunity, that they review their land and ensure that submissions are made within the required time periods. Herefordshire Council specifically note that any land greater than 0.25 hectares and near to existing settlements would be of preference, so if you have such a parcel this should be seen as a good opportunity and shouldn’t be disregarded without due thought.
Landowners who wish to promote land for development, for either employment or housing uses, have until Monday 14th September 2020.
