Home Is … Full of Fabrics, Pins & Needles at This Time of Year, in Preparation for Our Pantomime!

Mon 25 November 2019

Sandra Sharp is an Agricultural Secretary at our Knighton office and has been here for 19 years. Here she shares what a busy home life she has.

For the last 40 odd years I have been a member of Teme Spirits Light Entertainment Society in Knighton, being head of the Costume Department for much of that time.  We are now ready to perform our pantomime Hoodwinked, all about Robin Hood – Oh yes we are – this Friday 29th and two performances on Saturday 30th November at the Community Centre in Knighton.  The Costume Department takes up most of my year as apart from our annual production and cabaret we help the local groups with any costume requirements for their own entertainment. Luckily I have an understanding husband who tolerates bits of cotton and pins ‘everywhere’.   When I first joined Teme Spirits my eldest son wasn’t even one and now he has got the bug and is a leading light as well as our Chairman!  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Myself and my twin sister were lucky enough to have a Mum who was super talented in all things crafty, be it sewing, knitting, crocheting etc. so we were taught to sew at a young age.  It helped that we loved doing it!  We used to make our dolls and teddies clothes and aspired to open a dolls dress shop.  As young adults we did sort of fulfil this wish as we made costume accessories for the Victorian Festival in Llandrindod Wells and sold in a local shop!

Another thing we did as growing up was sing.  With Grandparents and a Mother who sang, again it was a no brainer.  We went to the local Baptist Chapel Sunday School and would sing, usually duets, in the Anniversaries and also in the annual Eisteddfod. Growing up we drifted on with our lives but came back to singing as young Mums entertaining at local concerts, often accompanying a Male Voice Choir or two!  Such fun.

With retirement looming in 2020 I am looking forward to spending more time with my four grandchildren and enjoying holidays as well hobbies such as sewing and my new found passion – line dancing!  I feel very lucky to have been born when I was, to the family I have and be blessed with their talents to enjoy.
