Home Is…Where the Farm Is

Fri 11 October 2019

Marian Pinches runs our Bridgnorth Property Office, although this isn’t her first ‘job’ of the day…

“I live on a commercial sheep farm just North of Church Stretton, along with another holding further West towards Minsterley.

Getting up at 6AM, I carry out my jobs to include feeding my two horses, goats, chickens and then walking my dog. I’m usually clock-watching to make sure I leave in enough time as my commute to the office in Bridgnorth is just under 1hr.

During the winter months the ewes and lambs need feeding so this is an extra chore I usually help to undertake, all before ‘work’!  The weekends…not quite sure what a day off really is?!

My favourite time of the year has to be April when we’re lambing. This is the first part of the journey for sheep farmers and helping to produce British Lamb is incredibly rewarding, especially when I get to work with the best boss - my dad! I always take 2 weeks ‘holiday’ to help – I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be.

We have 6 sheep dogs so the farms are usually bustling with the sound of lots of barking, the dogs being keen to work the sheep!

So with all of this going on, I’m also looking at buying another horse – although I could really do with a few more hours in the day!

Home really is where the farm is…that’s certainly where my heart is”.
