KNIGHTON MARKET – NEXT SALE OF STORE CATTLE (including YOUNG FEEDING BULLS and BREEDING STOCK) together with SALE OF STORE HOGGETS – FRIDAY 4th MAY 2018
I write to invite your entries of cattle and sheep for the above auction and PLEASE NOTE ENTRIES WILL CLOSE THIS COMING THURSDAY 26th APRIL 2018 AT 5.00PM.

The Spring Show and Sale of store cattle last Friday was a resounding success with everything sold on a very brisk trade. All steers averaged 247.94 pence per kilo and all heifers levelled at 226.20 pence. The young feeding bull section was well supported and these were well sold. The overall average was 227.01 pence per kilo which was excellent as there were a lot of heavier sorts in the entry. We are having another show of Young Feeding Bulls on Friday 18th May 2018.

A seasonal entry of 253 store hoggets were all sold and averaged £63.81 up to a top of £77.50. The finished sheep trade continues in a strong vein. Last Thursday some 497 tegs were sold to average 230 pence per kilo. Cull ewes sold to a top of £105 and averaged £65.19. Weighing and penning of sheep every Thursday from 8.00AM. In England the Countryside Stewardship Scheme has opened for application to commence at the start of 2019.
The scheme consists of Mid Tier, which replaces ELS and HLS. Application packs need to be requested by 31st May 2018 and the deadline to submit applications is 31st July 2018. The same deadlines apply for the Water Grant Scheme offering up to £10,000 for works to improve water quality, such as concreting yards, covering muck stores and handling areas etc. A list of grass keep available is enclosed with this newsletter.
