Planning permission gained to convert a Grade II listed barn into 4 dwellings

Mon 12 March 2018

McCartneys LLP planning and survey department have obtained full planning approval, and listed building consent for the change of use of a traditional part brick, part timber barn into four dwellings.

The barn is Grade II listed, with a Grade II* farmhouse located adjacent. The project was undertaken on the outskirts of Worcester on behalf of private clients.

With many of the older agricultural buildings no longer fit for purpose with modern farming methods, alternative uses are often sought. The new dwellings now will help provide additional income to the farm which will help provide improved long term financial security. The scheme has provided 4 two bedroom units within the barn, with private courtyard gardens.

The application was undertaken and submitted to the council by Geraint Jones working from the Kington Office of McCartneys.  The development included detailed discussions and pre application advice both Historic England and the local conservation officer. The result of these initial discussions it resulted in a fairly swift approval for a development of this type. The local council were keen to support the change of use of the building given its Grade II listed status, and the nearby Grade II* Listed farmhouse to help ensure the building's future is safeguarded.
