Prime Cattle see a 15ppk Liveweight Price Increase

Mon 8 June 2020

There is no doubt that the recent Covid-19 outbreak has reaffirmed the importance of livestock markets. Liveweight selling continues to provide much needed competition as well as varied outlets for all specifications of prime cattle. Since the lockdown, demand from independent butchers has been maintained and, in some cases increased, which has kept the liveweight price relatively firm.

This has resulted in increased numbers of prime cattle and barren cows sold though our markets over the past few months. The outlook is positive at present as averages for prime cattle see a 15ppk lift in the past fortnight with prime bulls and clean cattle averaging over 190ppk last week (01/06/20) and barren cows averaging 132ppk.

The recent warm weather is helping the sale of higher value cuts and supply is tightening as daily liveweight gains have not been pushed as much as previous years.
