The British Heart Foundation - Beating Heartbreak forever

Fri 12 April 2019

In 2018 McCartneys and Phipps & Pritchard chose the British Heart Foundation as our Charity of the Year. Heart disease is one of the world’s biggest killers, the BHF funds vital research to save lives.

We met with Warren Appleby our regional fund raising manager at the beginning of the year to learn more about the British Heart Foundation and how donations would be spent. You can see our video by going to BHF charity page.

McCartneys Livestock Markets are at the heart of our communities and our first decision was to invest £4000 providing potentially lifesaving defibrillators for all our markets. We then organised for one of our team who is a community first responder to train us all in how to use them.  Many events were organised throughout 2018 including quiz nights, fancy dress days, a highly entertaining race night and an astonishing feat of endurance when a team from McCartneys took part in The Three Peaks 24 Hour Challenge. During one of the hottest weekends recorded that year the three mountains of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon were scaled within the set time limit of 24 hours. Whilst the challenge was no mean feat most importantly a fantastic £4,236 was raised.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all the members of the public, friends, family and clients who donated and sponsored us throughout the year and to Warren who has been an amazing ambassador and support.

We are proud that in 2018 we raised a total of £8,500.  We learnt a lot, gained new skills, had a lot of fun and more importantly raised awareness. The BHF continues to fund new research into heart disease, their aim is to beat heartbreak forever.
