'Upbeat Feel to the Market'

Thu 19 March 2015

McCartneys have kicked off 2015 season with a definite upbeat feel following the launch of the highly successful ‘on the market’ website and an increasing number of buyers coming out of the woodwork. What advice can we give you about marketing this spring with an election looming in May?

Traditionally a General Election causes hesitation in the market until it’s over. Usually once there is a result, and the whole world doesn’t actually come to a shuddering halt, then life goes on much as before. After all the policies are generally pretty similar. So usually sellers wait until after the election before marketing their properties in an election year.

This time things could just be different. If the election result has, (as anticipated), a very anti-European result, then all eyes will turn to the promised “IN/OUT of Europe” referendum. The economic uncertainty that will create is likely to have a significant effect on confidence and also on the house market until it is over. And goodness knows what the impact will be if there is an OUT vote. So this time it might well be a mistake to hold back if you want to move in 2015.

Here at McCartneys we feel it’s important to get the best price you can and to market when things are buoyant. So call your local office to discuss the best timing for your house sale. If you have a pretty cottage up a mucky lane then perhaps late spring is when it is likely to look at its best. But every property is different and this year it might be best to move sooner rather than later.
