Gareth joined McCartneys in July 2001 to assist Richard Gwilliam in the running of Kington market and the property & professional office.  Following Richard Gwilliam’s retirement Gareth joined the McCartneys partnership in January 2003 and now runs Kington market and the professional office where he undertakes a wide range of professional work in relation to agricultural, residential and commercial property. Gareth is a managing partner of McCartneys.

Gareth grew up on his family’s beef, sheep and arable farm in South Shropshire.

He was educated at the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester and the Collage of Estate Management at Reading University. Gareth is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Member of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants, Fellow of the Central  Association of Agricultural Valuers and a Fellow of the Livestock Auctioneers Association.

Gareth takes a keen interest in all aspects of the industry. He holds the position of Secretary and Treasurer of the Three Counties & South Wales Livestock Auctioneers Association and is a Council member for the National Livestock Auctioneers Association.

He is a recommended Professional for the Tenant Farmers Association and the National Farmers Union. He is a Tribunal member for the Agricultural Land and Drainage Tribunal in England and the Agricultural Land Tribunal in Wales, a panel member on the Rural Payments Agency Independent Agricultural Appeals Panel and is also an examiner for the Rural Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers.

He is married to Emma and they have a son and daughter, Thomas and Annabelle, and live in north Herefordshire between the villages of Pembridge and Lyonshall.

Qualifications

Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Member of The British Institute of Agricultural Consultants (MBIAC), Member of the Royal Agricultural College (MRAC), Fellow of the Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV), Fellow of the Livestock Auctioneers Association (FLAA).

Experience

Gareth has extensive experience as a Chartered Surveyor in agricultural, rural, residential and commercial property.  He has expertise in property valuations, farm business management, estate and land management, basic payment, environmental stewardship and cross compliance legislation, farm and land sales together with lettings, property disputes, agricultural law, livestock, agricultural and commercial machinery sales and valuation, rural planning, finance, easements, wayleaves and boundary issues, renewable energy installations and telecommunication masts.

Gareth also undertakes instructions as an independent expert, expert witness and acts as advocate for clients in arbitrations and tribunals. He also has experience in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution services.
