Fundraising 'Promise Auction' Conducted by McCartneys Auctioneer Raises £7,500 Towards Local Cause

Tue 11 October 2016

McCartneys are pleased to have been able to help in the fight to keep open one of our local village primary schools recently.

The Teme Ithon Action Group (TIAG) has formed to fight against the proposed closure of Llanbister primary school, as well as raise funds for the school. TIAG recently organised a very successful fund raising event including entertainment and a promise auction. Katie Morris, auctioneer at Knighton livestock market, was honoured to be asked to conduct the auction of promises.

“Local people gave very generous promises; there were in excess of 50 lots.  The catalogue included a very wide range of items including a spray tan, a 6 month supply of eggs, shabby chic furniture , a quad bike trailer, a days shearing, and a rally driving experience to name but a few!” comments Katie, “The retention of the village primary school is something that really ignites a passion in the local community.  This could be seen by the way people bid up at the auction to support this cause.  The auction of promises raised an amazing £7500, with the whole event raising a far higher figure.  I hope that the funds raised prove fruitful and that Llanbister primary school, along with other local village schools, can be saved.  We have already seen too many close recently.  I would also like to wish TIAG continued luck for the future” says Katie.
