Increase in payments rates from 1st January 2022

Fri 7 January 2022

DEFRA has announced an increase in payments rates for many Countryside Stewardship options.

For example, payments for GS5 Permanent grassland with very low inputs in SDAs increased from £16 to £71; GS2 Permanent grassland with very low inputs (outside SDAs) from £95 to £132; GS4 Legume and herb-rich swards from £309 to £358; HS1 Maintenance of Weatherproof Traditional Farm Buildings from £3.25 to £4.03 and SW1 4-6m buffer strip on cultivated land from £353 to £419.

These increases are relevant not only to the forthcoming 2023 agreements but to existing agreements with effect from 1st January 2022. A list of the revised payment rates can be found on Gov.UK. For those who have not yet engaged with Countryside Stewardship, we urge you to re-consider. Applications are due to open in February/March 2022.
