Over half a dozen potential buyers were present in a full saleroom for McCartneys auction of the little Mission Hall at Hay-on-Wye.
The concrete block structure, complete with its baptismal bath, was built in 1928 and has recently become surplus to requirements following the refurbishment of the old Chapel on Oxford Road nearby.
Auctioneer, Ryan Williams said “There was a wide variety of potential buyers including a local theatre group, a local artist and someone wanting to create a puppet theatre. Bidding quickly passed the £50,000 guide and the hammer eventually fell at a pleasing £86,500 to a locally based buyer. I am sure that the new owners would love and cherish it as much as the previous owners had.”
